Seedance 1.0 Pro vs Lite — drafts on Lite, keepers on Pro

Seedance 1.0 comes in two sizes on eroq, and they are priced far enough apart that the choice matters. Lite renders 5 seconds for 60 credits at 480p or 720p; Pro renders the same 5 seconds for 140 credits at up to 1080p. Both take 3 to 12 seconds, both honor a reproducibility seed, both are SFW only. The interesting question isn't which is better — it is how to use both in the same job without paying Pro prices for every failed idea.

At the 5-second anchor, Pro costs a little more than twice Lite. At 10 seconds the gap is 260 against 110. At the entry pack, where a credit is roughly a cent, that is $2.60 versus $1.10 for a 10-second clip. The two engines share the same prompt register and the same 3–12 second range, so a prompt tuned on one carries to the other.

Note what Lite does not give up: the seed. A seed pins a render so that the same prompt and settings produce the same clip, which is what makes iteration on Lite meaningful rather than random.

When Lite is enough

Lite is the right engine more often than the price gap suggests.

• Drafting. You don't know yet whether the shot works. Most first prompts don't, and a wrong prompt at 1080p is still wrong.
• Vertical shorts. A 9:16 clip watched on a phone rarely needs more than 720p. For social shorts, Lite at 720p is usually the finished product, not the draft.
• Storyboarding in Film mode. The Cinema tab builds a film one scene at a time, up to 12 scenes, each rendering as you add it. Blocking twelve scenes on Pro before you know the film's rhythm is expensive; blocking them on Lite and re-rendering the ones that survive is not.
• Hobby accounts. Lite is unlocked from Hobby ($15, 1,800 credits). Pro is not. On Hobby the choice makes itself, and 1,800 credits is thirty 5-second Lite clips a month.

When Pro earns its price

• 1080p deliverables. Anything for a 16:9 screen larger than a phone — a website hero, a client cut, a short film you will show on a TV.
• The final take. Once the prompt is locked, the last render is the one people see. That one goes to Pro.
• Faces and fine detail. Resolution is where fabric texture, skin and small text survive.

The draft-then-keeper workflow

This is the pattern that makes the two engines cheaper together than either alone.

1. Write the prompt as one paragraph — subject, motion, camera, light, mood, 30–80 words. If the draft is rough, hit Enhance; the rewrite is free.
2. Render it on Lite at 5 seconds. Look at the motion, the framing, the light. Don't judge sharpness — you are judging the idea.
3. Fix one thing per render. Set the seed after the first pass so each change is legible. Two or three Lite passes usually land the shot.
4. Remix the winner and switch to Pro. Every render lands in your Library with its full recipe; Remix reloads it into the tool. Change the engine to Pro, set 1080p, render once.
5. Only then go long. If the shot needs 8 or 10 seconds, extend it on Pro after the 5-second version works. The extra seconds are where drift creeps in, and they are the expensive ones.

The arithmetic: four Lite drafts at 5 seconds (240 credits) plus one Pro keeper (140) is 380 credits — about $3.80 at the entry pack. Five Pro takes to reach the same result would be 700. Over a month of shots, that difference is the difference between Creator's 6,000 credits being enough and not.

One honest caveat: Pro is a separate engine, not an upscale of the Lite clip. The keeper is a fresh take on the same prompt, and it will interpret it slightly differently. That is why step 3 matters — a prompt that survives three Lite passes is specific enough to survive the jump.

Length and the plan caps

Both engines top out at 12 seconds, and that is the binding limit on both plans that can run them: Hobby caps clips at 15 seconds, Creator at 20, so Seedance 1.0's own 12-second ceiling is what you hit first. If the shot genuinely needs 15, 20 or 30 seconds in one take, that is Seedance 2.5, a different engine with a different price.

Lite pass: 5 s, 9:16, 720p, no seed on the first take, then the seed pinned while you adjust. Pro pass: same prompt, 1080p, 8 s if the flip needs the room; set a seed on the first Pro take and keep it.

Expect Lite to get the flame, the steam and the handheld drift right, and Pro to add what is in the sparks and the lantern paper. That is the whole division of labor.
