Dolly zoom

A dolly zoom moves the camera toward or away from the subject while zooming the opposite way, so the subject stays the same size while the background stretches or compresses. It is the "vertigo effect" from Hitchcock and Jaws.

The move signals realization, dread or a sudden shift in perspective. In generated video it is a prompted effect; engines with strong scene geometry (Seedance, Hailuo) render the background stretch convincingly when the subject is clearly defined and centered.

Questions

Can AI video do a dolly zoom?

Yes — as a prompted move; a single centered subject with a deep background gives the clearest effect.
