Comparison

Seedance Lite vs Hailuo 02

The Hobby plan unlocks two engines and no more, so this is the comparison most new subscribers actually need. Seedance 1.0 Lite is the cheapest render on the platform and the only one of the two with a seed and an end frame. Hailuo 02 costs roughly twice as much and looks considerably more cinematic.

Which one to pick

  • Block the shot on Lite. At 36 credits for three seconds it is the cheapest way to find out whether a prompt works at all, and the seed lets you lock a composition and keep editing the words.
  • Shoot the keeper on Hailuo when the scene is the subject — weather, scale, dramatic light. It is the better-looking engine of the two by a clear margin.
  • Need an exact final frame, an odd duration or a real 21:9? Only Lite does those, at either resolution.

Questions

Which engine should I start with on the Hobby plan?

Seedance Lite, for the arithmetic. A 3-second draft is 36 credits against 116 for the shortest Hailuo clip, so you can try three prompts on Lite for the price of one on Hailuo.

Can I re-render a Lite draft on Hailuo with the same seed?

No. A seed only reproduces a take on the engine that produced it, and Hailuo does not take one at all. Carry the prompt and the reference frame across instead.

Why is a 6-second Hailuo clip 116 credits and not 100?

Because clip pricing is not linear. The first five seconds bill at the engine's 5-second rate and every second after that at its marginal rate, so the sixth second adds 16. Six seconds is also Hailuo's minimum.

Do either of them reach 1080p?

No — Lite tops out at 720p and so does Hailuo. There is no upscaler, so 1080p means Creator and Seedance Pro, Seedance 2.5, Kling or Veo.
