# Clone a voice

> About a minute of clean speech makes a private clone that works on both engines and can be assigned to a character.

_Help center › Voice & transcription_

1. Open Voice → Voices → New clone and upload a recording: around a minute of natural speech, one speaker, no music or room noise. Files up to 1 GB are accepted; quality matters far more than length.
2. Name it, confirm the consent line, and wait a moment. The clone appears under My clones in the explorer and in every voice picker.
3. Assign it to a character (Characters → Voice) and every line that character speaks, anywhere, uses it.

## Whose voice

Your own, or that of someone who gave you explicit permission. Cloning real, identifiable people without consent — including public figures — is banned by the acceptable-use policy and enforced at the account level. Clones are private to your account unless you publish one.
