# Write the script

> The Script tab is a document of blocks: scenes are what the engine reads, everything else is your notes.

_Help center › Cinema_

The script is a page of blocks, like a writing app: headings, paragraphs, callouts, lists, to-dos — type / for the menu, use Markdown shortcuts, drag blocks by their handle. Those blocks are notes: they stay in the document and are never sent to an engine.

## Scene blocks

- A scene block is one storyboard scene: a slugline (where and when), the action (the prompt, with @mentions and the director syntax), and dialogue lines — a speaker, a manner, a line. Press Enter on a line for the next one; speakers alternate by themselves.
- Each scene shows "What the engine reads": the exact text that will go out, slugline and action and lines folded together.
- Characters named as speakers join the scene's cast automatically, with their look sheet as a reference and their voice where the engine renders dialogue.

## Order

The order of scene blocks in the script is the order of the storyboard, and vice versa: reorder in either tab and the other follows.
